How to Style Dressy Tops for Women: Casual to Glam Looks

If there’s one thing I say to customers all the time, it’s this: a few good dressy tops can do more than a whole new outfit. Seriously. You don’t always need a new dress—you just need the right top and a fresh way to wear it.

A dressy top gives you options. One day you’re heading to brunch in jeans, the next you’ve got a dinner that needs just a little extra polish. Same top. Different styling.

Let me show you how I like to mix and match mine—starting with some of our current favourites in-store.

Casual looks that still feel styled

Let’s take the Fleur Top for starters. It’s got puffed sleeves, embroidery, and that chambray colour that works with almost anything. On relaxed days, I wear it with linen shorts and flats. But you could just as easily tuck it into tailored pants and add a little heel. No effort needed.

Then there’s the Pastel Amber Top. Light blue, soft, floaty—it’s the kind of thing you wear with white jeans on a warm day. The embroidery gives it a boho feel without going overboard. For something dressier, you can do a slick ponytail, gold hoops, and a neutral sandal. Suddenly it’s perfect for a nice lunch out.

Dress it up a bit more

Now if you want something a little more polished, go with the Sarah Top. I love this one because it’s simple but has those delicate lace panels that make it feel feminine. It looks great loose over jeans, or tucked into a midi skirt. You could even add a blazer if it’s a bit cooler or you're heading somewhere more formal.

And don’t forget the Bayside Top. ,This one’s great for layering, and the knit texture gives it some structure. It works with shorts, flowy skirts, even over a slip dress. And because it’s not too fitted, it’s comfy for long days, but still looks like you’ve made a bit of effort.

Quick tips I usually give in-store

When customers ask how to make a top feel “new” again, here’s what I tell them:

  • Try different bottoms—same top with denim feels totally different to pairing it with wide-leg pants.
  • Don’t underestimate shoes: sneakers = casual, block heels = a bit more glam.
  • Accessories do a lot. A statement earring or clutch can dress up anything.
  • Layers! A blazer, jacket or knit over the top adds instant polish.

Worth having more than one

This is the part people forget. You don’t always need a whole new outfit. Sometimes you just need another top in the mix. If you’ve got three or four that you love, you can rotate them through different looks—casual one day, dressed up the next.

And if you’re building your wardrobe, that’s where I’d suggest starting. Tops that aren’t basic, but still easy to wear. Pieces that feel like “you” but work for more than one occasion.

Have a browse through the four I mentioned—Fleur, Pastel Amber, Sarah, Bayside. Try styling each a few different ways. You’ll be surprised how far one good top can go.
